The Argentinian moved to the Canary Islands in 2001, where he played during the next years and, finally, Barça signed him

Barça will face Inter Milan on Wednesday 24 in their fight for the leadership in their Champions League group. During this match, Barcelona's defender will need to keep an eye on Mauro Icardi, the center-forward and Inter's captain. On this weekend he scored the winning goal in the injury time on the Milan derby and he is performing another wonderful season.

However, not everyone knows that his football roots started in Spain. In 2001 his family moved to the Canary Islands and he started to play in Vecindario, a team bound to UD Las Palmas. After a great tournament in 2008, Barça watched him and signed Mauro Icardi for the next three seasons.

During his years in the former teams of Barcelona, Icardi lived with Sergi Roberto, Sergi Gómez and Marc Muniesa. Icardi recognised that while his years wearing Barça's shirt, he could develop other skills that helped him to be one of the best forwards in Europe. However, he also has told that he did not adapt to Barça's style and that's why he signed for Sampdoria in 2011. After a great years there, he signed for Inter in 2013, where he has scored most of his career goals.
